“It’s a family, something that’s always been there and hopefully always will be.” That’s what St. John LaLande Catholic School means to Nicki (Mann) Hogan, Class of ’68. Nicki was in the first class that completed all eight grades at St. John’s and now her grandson, Eli, is the third generation to attend our school.
While raising her own three children, John, Sarah, and Emily, Nicki began caring for children in her home as well. Then Principal Mr. Eskew would refer families to Nicki, especially for before and after school care. Today, Nicki fills her time watching her grandchildren.
Thinking back on her years at St. John’s, Nicki remembers the closeness of the community even then, “Everybody knew each other; we were close to all the students.” And how has St. John’s changed? “The biggest change has been the growth. Thankfully, the school has grown.”
