Prairie Days was started in 1996 for fourth grade students at St. John LaLande Catholic School in Blue Springs. During the school year, the fourth grade class study’s Missouri history and are transcended back in time to the 1850’s via Prairie Days.
Students dressed in the time period attire and traveled from station to station participating in hands-on activities. These activities included candle dipping, toolbox crafting, tin punching, corncob pipe making, sewing, using washboards, making applesauce and dancing the Virginia Reel. They also learned how to play some old time games and drank root beer at the saloon.
Prairie Day has been described as the best school trip ever for many kids! Thanks to all of the parents who joined in this awesome 4th grade tradition.
